This site was created in memory of Dr. G. Rajasekaran. Our loving husband, father and grandfather.

Story

Born in Kamudi, Ramanathapuram Dist. Tamil Nadu

February 21st, 1936

Born in 1936 in Kamuthi, a small town in Ramanathapuram District, about
80 Km south east of Madurai. It had a population of about 10,000. There were two
main streets, running north-south. One was called Nadar Bazaar and the other was Muslim Bazaar.

Dr. Rajasekaran did his undergraduate degree in Madras Christian College and was among the few who listened to a lecture by Nobel laureate C.V.Raman.  He was among the first batch of students who trained under Homi Bhabha in the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research, Mumbai.  He later got his doctorate from University of Chicago in 1962, under the guidance of Dr. Dalitz. He also spent time at Oxford University, UK working with his mentor.

He served as Professor Emeritus at Institute of Mathematical Sciences (IMSc), Chennai and Adjunct Professor at Chennai Mathematical Institute. Retired from IMSc after serving as Joint Director and Distinguished Professor. His field of research is Quantum Field Theory and High Energy Physics in which he published about 200 papers.

​Fondly known as Rajaji to his associates and students, he has trained many in the field of particle physics and nuclear physics. Dr. Rajasekaran was involved in the Indian Neutrino Project (INO). It was his dream and ambition to establish the project.

Dr. G. Rajasekaran is survived by his wife of 60 years, Suthandra Devi Rajasekaran,   his eldest daughter Poongodhai and husband Sunil Ramachandran,  his youngest daughter Uma and husband James Harano, along with his two grand daughters Anjali and Shalini and grand son Kailash.
